Cannavaro out of EURO 2008

This is really sad news, as Italy captain and Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro will be missing EURO 2008 as he picked up an ankle injury when he colided with Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini in training. He will probably need surgery, so there’s no chance to recover for any match of the tournament.

Italy play against France, Holland and Romania in group stages at EURO 2008.

UPDATE
Cannavaro proves his character! Chiellini was simply mentally down, following Cannavaro’s injury. Cannavaro consolated him, saying:

I comforted him. He was broken. I told him that it wasn’t his fault. We lost a player – it’s not worth losing a second.

A true captain…
